Rights of Nature Series: The Democracy School
This is a stimulating and illuminating one day course that teaches residents and activists how to reframe exhausting and often discouraging single issue work (such as opposing fracking, pipelines, GMOs, etc). It shows how we can confront corporate control and state preemption on a powerful single front: the rights of communities and non-human nature. Further information about the Democracy School available here.
Presenter: Tish O’Dell, Ohio Community Organizer for the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund since 2013. Tish co-founded the grass-roots organization in Broadview Heights, OH, that successfully campaigned to adopt a Charter amendment creating a Community Bill of Rights banning gas drilling and fracking in 2012. Tish is also the current president of the Ohio Community Rights Network and still resides in Broadview Hts., Ohio.
Cost for this event: $50. Includes manual and lunch. There are partial scholarships available.
